Why Ayurveda?
Considered to be the oldest healing science, Ayurveda is a holistic approach to health that is designed to help people live long, healthy, and well-balanced lives. Ayurveda is a branch of one of the Vedas, Atharva Veda. The term Ayurveda is taken from the Sanskrit words ayur, meaning life or lifespan, and veda, meaning knowledge. It has been practiced in India for at least 5,000 years and in recent years has started becoming popular in Western and South East Asian cultures as well.
Ayurveda sees the human body as a blend of the five basic elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space combined in such a way so as to control all the processes of health and disease. It is regulated by the three bio-regulating principles of thridoshas (Life Forces or energies of our body) nervous (Vata), the venous (Pitta) and the arterial (Kapha). All people have vata, pitta, and kapha, but usually 1 or 2 are dominant in a given individual. According to Ayurveda, illness arises when these doshas, are out of balance. Many factors such as stress, an unhealthy diet, the weather etc. can disturb the dosha balance. Such disturbances are expressed in the body as disease. To balance the three doshas, Ayurvedic physicians primarily prescribe herbal medicines ,Diet ,Life style changes and Panchkarma Therapies. Additional healing methods can include yoga, sweat baths, meditation, nasal cleansing etc.
The constitutional/individualised approach is the essence of the Ayurvedic health system. It is effective, safe and holistic in its approach.

Panchakarma – cleanse, balance, heal, rejuvenate!
The word Panchakarma literally means “five actions”. It is a program for the body, mind and soul. Health is defined as the body being clear of toxins, the mind at peace, emotions calm and happy, wastes being efficiently eliminated and organs functioning normally. In a busy, stressful and toxic world, our physical and mental systems accumulate toxins causing deterioration of the body’s normal functions. This eventually weakens our systems, which opens the door for chronic, degenerative, and non-specific diseases to develop. These can evolve into serious specific diseases, ultimately damaging an individual’s health and wellness.
Panchakarma can help reverse these negative effects of our daily living. It is a unique, natural, holistic, health-giving series of therapeutic treatments that cleanses the body’s deep tissues of toxins, opens the subtle channels, brings life-enhancing energy and nourishment thereby increasing vitality, inner peace, confidence and well-being. This is why it is often termed as rejuvenation therapy. Panchakarma can be taken for as few as 3 consecutive days to a more common 5-day treatment and as many as 30 days.
Panchakarma therapy is performed in three stages:
- Preparatory procedures: prepares the body for the discarding of toxins through Snehana (internal and external oleation) and Swedana (therapeutic sweating). Snehana helps to liquefy toxins in the tissues. Swedana is the therapeutic application of heat to the body which helps dilate the body channels to facilitate the toxins to move to the alimentary canal and finally expelled by any of the Panchakarma procedures.
- Main treatment and
- Post-treatment care.
Abhyanga (Ayurvedic warm oil body massage) – for a profound and lasting rejuvenation
It involves rubbing of the skin with herbalised oil (usually sesame oil is the base) to increase blood circulation and drawing toxins out of the body through the skin. It is a very relaxing body massage using warm body oil appropriate for your constitution at the time of treatment. The skin is the largest organ of our body and whatever is topically applied gets absorbed by the body and enters the bloodstream. Ayurveda states “Oil is to the body as love is to the soul”. Your body needs regular oleation to function properly and to be at ease. We regularly oleate our cars and other machines but not our own body! This treatment is a great opportunity to provide your body what it needs but rarely gets. You will feel rejuvenated and relaxed after this treatment.
